in a deterministic universe, we could go back 1,000 times right to the start of this thought exercise and you’d go through that same exact thought process and you’d choose that same city every time.

That’s the difference between free will and determinism.

I don’t think that’s necessarily true. Here’s me trying to think through why I that strikes me as starting with the wrong premise.
